Casual Weekend OOTN!

June 23, 2013

Hi dolls!!!

How was everyone's weekend!? My honey and I had a blast hanging out with some of our friends Friday night--- bowling, talking and eating late-night Steak n Shake!! What a blast! So for bowling, I decided to wear pants....but seriously, it's really hard to make those ugly bowling shoes look fashionable- ha!! :) I paired my white jeans with a blue and yellow sleeveless top that I bought in a cute boutique in NOLA last spring (check that post out HERE) and wedges for a casual look!! The back of this top is probably my favorite part....

Pants: Gap Outlet

How was your weekend!? Leave me a comment and let me know, dolls!

Styling: The Lace Skirt

June 16, 2013

Hello dahhhhlings!!

I hope y'all have had a wonderful weekend! I absolutely can't tell you how excited I get when I have a friend ask me a fashion question!!! One of my favorite parts about being a fashion blogger is brainstorming outfit ideas, and then putting together a Polyvore with ideas. The other day one of my good friends from college sent me a message asking me about what kind of top she should wear with a cream lace skirt she had recently purchased from Forever 21. I just LOVE that lace is a big trend right now in skirts, shorts and dresses. It just screams "girly" to me and if there is ONE thing that I am, it's girly. SO when she emailed me asking how to style it, I put together 4 different looks!! See them below in the Polyvore I made, and scroll to the bottom for more detailed information on why I decided to style these outfits the way I did.....

Styling: The Lace Skirt

1. Trendy: Add a pop of color to a cream lace skirt with a neon top and accessories. I just LOVE the bright pink in this top paired with neon yellow. This is a fun look for a night on the town!

2. Ultra Feminine: To play up the super "girly-ness" of a lace skirt, why not add a floral print?! I just LOVE this peplum strapless top and florals are so beautiful for the warm summer months. Don't forget to add the final girly touch with a pair of bow sandals. Doesn't get more feminine than this look!!!

3. Casual: While you can play up the femininity of a lace skirt with look number 2, look number 3 offers a casual contrast with a chambray shirt. Add a pair of nude wedges for the perfect look for a warm summer day!!!

4. Dressy: For a dressy look, I paired the skirt with a black ruffled blouse and black stilettos. This would be great for a nice dinner. Add a string of pearls to dress it up even more!!!

So how would YOU style a lace skirt?!

If you ever have any styling questions, I absolutely LOVE creating new looks so be sure to e-mail me at ashleyspassionforfashion@gmail.com!!

Polka Dot Shorts: A Summer Must-Have

June 13, 2013

Hi there gorgeous readers!!

If you've read my blog for any length of time, it's no secret that I'm obsessed with polka dots. I love that they are timeless and appropriate for any season. Not to mention polka dots are the epitome of what it means to be girly and feminine. So for the summer I was on the hunt for some polka dot shorts, and leave it to my go-to Forever 21 to have the perfect pair!!! For a night of dinner out with my BFF, I decided to pair my black with white polka dot pair of shorts with my white with black polka dotted tank top. What can I say?! I like to pack as many polka dots as possible into one outfit :) Oh, and the perfect accessory for an all black & white outfit? Add a pop of color with some bright red lips & you're good to go!!!

Top: So old I don't know where it's from :)
Shorts: Forever 21
Necklace: Boutique
Wedges: Guess

Be sure to check out these adorable polka dot shorts online at Forever 21's website HERE (they also have them in white with black polka dots)!

My New Favorite Hair Product (Plus an OOTD)!!!

June 9, 2013

Confession: I have curly, frizzy, and at times...UNRULY hair.

As a child, I had legit ringlets & Mom would just wash my hair, let it air dry, and it would not frizz!! I don't know what happened between then and now, but I have tried literally COUNTLESS products after I wash my hair to try to control the frizz. A curling iron has always tamed it and is usually how I smoothed it, but I could never wear it straight without frizz.

Three weeks ago I was getting my hair done (goodbye dark roots, hello blonde) & the best hairdresser in the world (seriously she gave me my first haircut when I was in the 3rd grade. I love her!) told me about a new hair product called "Crack"....yes, you read that right. Crack.

I know, I know, it's a pretty funny name but the results that this product give are out of this world!! If you're like me and have frizzy hair, you HAVE to try this product. I have pretty thick hair so I use quite a bit (probably about 2 big drops) and rub it between my palms so it has a smooth appearance. I evenly distribute it through my hair right after I get out of the shower, and blow dry it with my brush. I then straighten it with my Chi straightener and there is no frizz. It's really my hair miracle!!!

Of course I had to include an OOTD with straight hair!! The look below is definitely a go-to look for a warm summer day with a sundress and sandals!!!

Dress: NY & Co.
Bow Sandals: Naughty Monkey (check them out here
Necklace: Francesca's

So what are your go-to favorite hair products?! Leave me a comment and let me know!!!

Oh, and check out Crack HERE!!! Thanks so much for reading dolls!!!

How to Dress for the CMA Fest (& Other Summer Country Concerts!)

June 5, 2013

Hi sweet readers!

This week is a BIG week for country music fans as the CMA Fest is in Nashville starting tomorrow through Sunday. One of my best friends (and previous college roomie) invited me to go with her on Thursday night and I am SO stinking excited because my girl Taylor Swift will be there, along with Luke Bryan, Miranda Lambert and Eric Church among many others.

So of course this special event calls for brainstorming about what in the world to wear! I have been to the CMA Fest twice before, and you do spend some time outdoors walking and listening to music, but also a lot of time inside if you go to the autograph hall. A comfortable pair of shoes, something cool, and some rain gear in your purse are all requirements. And above all, it goes without saying it should be cute (this IS a fashion blog after all)!

A few months ago I went to Nashville with a friend and was waiting for the perfect time to post my country music lovin-inspired ensemble. I've said it once and I will say it again...I firmly believe you cannot go wrong with a dress & cowgirl boots (and throw a pair of flip flops in your purse if your feet start hurting). With that being said, if you're headed to the CMA Fest this year, or to any country concert for that matter, here's a little outfit inspiration....

Dress: Forever 21
Belt: Body Central
Denim Jacket: Gap
Necklace: Body Central

So is anyone else going to some fun concerts this summer!? Leave me a comment and let me know!

Thank you so much for stopping by dolls!

Summer Essential: White Jeans

June 1, 2013

Hi there gorgeous readers!

White jeans are always on my list as an essential item for a summer wardrobe. They are PERFECT for a chilly summer night because they're not as heavy as blue jeans and of course, they're WHITE, so it's instantly more "summery". The night I wore them at the beach, I promise you I changed my outfit probably 4 times because I just couldn't decide what to wear because I knew we would be spending some time outside, and I'm cold-natured as can be (yeah I know....typical girl!). I first picked out shorts and wedges with a jacket....but then I stepped outside on the porch and decided I would be WAY too cold for that, since we were walking on the beach to dinner & playing putt putt after. SO that meant it was PERFECT to break out my white jeans!!! I bought mine at Gap Outlet and I LOVE the way they fit. They are so comfortable and are the perfect length (being 5'3 and 1/2 means you have to be concerned with the length of your jeans!). I styled them with my white wedges, a grey & white ruffled sleeveless top and a denim jacket! It turned out to be a great choice for a chilly summer evening....

Top: Kohl's
Jeans: Gap Outlet
Denim Jacket: Old Navy
Wedges: Lucky Brand (here)

After my mini OOTN photoshoot (thanks fiancĂ©) I threw off the wedges for a walk on the beach. There's really nothing like a beach walk to dinner at sunset!!! (PS: you can't tell by the iPhone pics below, but Mr. Dodson is wearing a Ralph Lauren blue & white seersucker hat. Boy's got some serious style!!!!).

Thanks so much for reading dolls! Hope you're enjoying my beach outfit recaps! One more to come! :)

Ashley
