Fashion Fab & Fail Friday: Sometimes Less Is More….

April 27, 2012

Hi dolls!

Ok so if you checked out this post originally you might have noticed that it was published …then it was BLANK/DISAPPEARED (that’s what I get for blogging on my phone!)…giving a whole new yet unintended meaning to the “less is more” title of this post!!! Haha! SO here it goes…my second Fashion Fab & Fail Friday:

My pick for Fashion Fab of the week goes to one of my favorite style icons of our generation and one of my obsessions in life, Catherine Middleton! She always looks so beautiful no matter what she wears. Elegant but simple definitely describes her look in this photo from the London premiere of African Cats. She wore a Matthew Williamson dress with turquoise details. I just LOVE the contrast of a bright stone like turquoise with pastels.

And also a close-up picture to show how beautiful and stunning her hair and makeup always looks in case you never noticed (wink wink)....

So with this beautiful image of Kate Middleton in your memory, now let’s move on to my fashion fail of the week. I honestly do enjoy bright and bold prints in fashion, and I also enjoy artwork. But mixing the two in one dress??? Not so much! Camilla Belle wore the following Fall 2012 Carven Ready to Wear collection dress with a painting printed all over it to an event at the Tribecca Film Festival. In fashion you ALWAYS want to make sure YOU are wearing your outfit and your outfit isn’t wearing YOU! Unfortunately this is NOT the case with Camilla Belle. The dress is completely wearing her...a definite fashion no.

The only redeeming feature of this unfortunate ensemble are her Christian Louboutin red pumps. Can you ever go wrong with Louboutin???? I think not!!!!

So as you can see from comparing Kate’s and Camilla’s dresses, sometimes less is definitely more....a rule of thumb in fashion.

What do you think of my picks for fashion fab & fashion fail this week? Leave me a comment and let me know!

Have a great weekend my dears & thank you as always for reading!!!!

First Fashion Fab & Fail Friday!

April 20, 2012

TGIF! Happy Friday everyone!!!!

Today I wanted to do a new feature that I will post every Friday called “Fashion Fab & Fail Friday.” Each week I will post a picture of that week’s fashion fab and fashion fail. Of course these are just my opinions but I thought it would be a fun way to get some fashion inspiration flowing for the weekend.

My first Fashion FAB is going to Ashley Tisdale for her Naven dress she wore to the LA Premiere of the new movie “The Lucky One” (which hits theaters today…guess who’s going to be there!? This girl!). You may kind of be catching on to a trend here, but I really do love pairing bright colors together. Ashley does color blocking right by letting the two colors be the focus of her dress and wearing nude heels to not compete with the bold look.

Buy Ashley's dress HERE

Unfortunately my fashion fail has to go to someone whose style I usually love...Julianne Hough. This week she wore a DKNY dress with sheer sleeves to US Weekly’s 2012 Hot Hollywood Style Event. While this dress incorporated 2 trends that are big right now (sheer + longer hemline) I just didn’t feel like it suited Julianne at all! She is usually so GLAMOROUS, and this dress wasn’t special enough for her! In fact when this picture appeared on my Facebook news feed I had a hard time believing it was her! Also....I'm not digging her hair style at all. JULIANNE what happened?!

So I want to know, what do YOU think about Ashley Tisdale’s & Julianne Hough’s looks this week!? Leave me a comment & give me your opinion!

Thank you so much for reading my first Fashion Fab & Fail Friday!!

I hope y’all have a great weekend full of fashion fabs!

Polka Dots with a Side of Neon

April 19, 2012

Happy Thursday my dear readers!

It’s almost Friday…can get I get a WOO-HOO for that!?

Last weekend was my 5th year high school reunion weekend and it was SO much fun. Friday night there was a fabulous party at the Founder’s House on campus and I wanted to show you a little collage I made (via the iPhone app called “POSE”…if you love fashion & don’t have this app you MUST download it…for FREE! Click HERE to check it out) of my OOTN.

I was in the mood for a little polka dottin' with a side of neon lovin' (read my original post on neon HERE)!!!!

Top: Mono B.
Pants: H&M
Heels: Guess (every girl needs a great pair of black stilettos!)
Wristlet: Ann Taylor

If you remember I bought the shirt I’m wearing above in NOLA at a local boutique. One thing I absolutely LOVED about it was it combined two trends that are big this spring: neon + polka dots. It’s hard to believe but polka dots are in AGAIN for spring (they were in last fall too) and so I was double-ly excited that this shirt had a hint of neon. This shirt is an example of an easy way to wear what might be considered a bold trend and "tone it down" a bit. A neon belt is also a good way to work a bold trend into your existing wardrobe!

Also, a little fashion FYI for wearing neon or just color blocking in general….there is no need to worry about matching all of the shades of color in your outfit. My belt is a few shades different than the neon stripes in my shirt but that’s what makes neon work. No need for it to be matchy matchy! When wearing one main neon color, as long as the colors are in the same family it will work!!!

I hope your week has been FABULOUS! Thank you for reading!!!!

Pretty in Pink Pastel Nails

April 16, 2012

Hey dolls!

I hope everyone has had a wonderful weekend & a great start to your week!!

While neon colors are a huge trend this spring, pastels/sorbet colors are ALSO in! When I went to get my nails done for my brother's wedding, I wanted a soft pastel color so it would go with any color dress I decided to wear. One of my favorite pastel shades (and colors in general) is pink so naturally that was an obvious choice! I tried this beautiful light pink shade in the Holland Spring 2012 collection called "Pedal Faster Suzi!"

However, of course just plain pastel pink was not enough on its own and I definitely live by the motto “you can never go wrong with glitter” (as spoken by my nail technician)! I really do love all the glitter nail polish OPI and Essie have come out recently. So to top off my pink pastel look, I added a coat of “I Lily Love You” from the OPI Nice Stems collection that came out last year!

Left: "I Lily Love You"
Right: "Pedal Faster Suzi!"

And here is my pink pastel glitter nails turned out...

Buy OPI "Pedal Faster Suzi!" HERE and "I Lily Love You" HERE!

So what is your favorite pastel nail polish shade? Leave me a comment & fill me in!

PS my pretty pink nail polish also reminds me of something else I love that's pink: COTTON CANDY!!! I love it ALMOST as much as Sophia Grace & Rosie (lol I'm obsessed with them & had to post this  video)....

Thank you dolls for reading!

OOTD & OOTNs: NOLA Style!!!

April 9, 2012

Hello dolls!

How was everyone's weekend?! Mine was definitely a memorable one! You may know via Facebook or Twitter, but I spent this weekend livin' it up in the Big Easy aka Nawlins aka NOLA! I went down with my family for my big brother's wedding and it was a blast!!! NOLA definitely has some of the best food and shopping! I honestly can say I'm super excited to go back one day. So I thought I would do a little recap of my trip & show you some of the highlights (oh and also my OOTDs & OOTNs)!

The first night when we arrived, we ate dinner at this amazing little Italian restaurant called the Italian Barrel. I was ready to change out of my travel clothes & put on something a little nicer so I went with black & white polka dots with a punch of red!

                 Sweater: U-Knit
                 Belt: NY & Co
          Jeans: Jessica Simpson
              Flip flops: Yellow Box

The next day was the wedding day! Before the ceremony we had a delicious breakfast at a place called Stanley's. I went with a very casual outfit:
Outside our hotel Le Richelieu!

T-Shirt: Philosphy
Skirt: Miley Cyrus (yes from Wal-Mart...hahaha don't judge)
Flip flops: Yellow Box

For the wedding I went with a bright color combination: hot pink + turquoise (I didn't actually end up wearing the hat to the wedding...it was supposed to be an outdoor wedding but changed to indoors):

On the balcony of our hotel, Le Richelieu!
My sun hat is from Kohl's (if you need a sun hat I highly suggest Kohl's! I bought this one last year in white & black as well. Relatively inexpensive & perfect for summer!)

This is what I wore to the wedding, sans sun hat!
Dress: IZ Beyer California (Kohl's)
Turquoise Necklace: Forever 21
Sandals: Nine West

That night we went out for a little more casual dinner at Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville (I love that place!) so I decided on wearing my black shorts, white tank, & leopard print scarf.

Tank: GAP
Shorts (orange belt included): H&M
Leopard print scarf: H&M

We also went out on Bourbon Street that night....

On our last day I wore a sun dress for a day of shopping and eating! I just love warm weather because there is seriously nothing as easy, cute & comfortable as a sun dress.

Dress: H&M
Hat: Purchased in NOLA in a local boutique called "Head to Toe"

That morning we had breakfast at the world famous Cafe Du Monde:

After breakfast it was time to hit the shops of NOLA! Of course we first had to go by the French Market which was mostly just kind of "junky" items...but I did find the mask I'm wearing in the first picture at the top of this post! Besides the French Market, there were some amazing boutiques which sold really unique items that I wouldn't be able to find in Tennessee. I was so excited with all my purchases.

One of the first shops we went into was called Langford Market on 907 Decatur Street. I absolutely LOVED trying on clothes here...they had so many cute things:

One of my purchases from Langford Market were these red shorts pictured here. They are super cute...very retro!!! I love them!

I also bought this blue/yellow sleeveless blouse! Excited to pair it with jeans or even shorts this summer.

Probably my favorite purchase from Langford Market was this red/coral colored 2 tiered dress. It's really airy and casual. More pictures of it at the bottom of this post!!!

Another store I LOVED in NOLA was called Jackie's. I found a couple of really cute blouses here along with some new white shorts! Here are a few snapshots of me trying things on in the dressing room...

I ended up buying this white blouse, but not the pink shorts! I really need to find some hot pink shorts though!

I ended up buying these white jean shorts from Jackie's made by Blank NYC. Didn't buy the coral blouse although I really liked it!

Here are the 2 shirts I bought! The one on the right is combining 2 trends I love....polka dots & neon! I also bought a lime green neon belt.  A super unique shirt, really excited to wear it!

With my shopping bags at the end of the day!

On our last night I wore the new dress I bought shopping:

We also hit Bourbon again and I got to go back into this AMAZING jewelry store called "So Good" that just happened to be PINK and have ZEBRA on the floor tile with amazing jewelry that was super cheap! Wow!! :)

If you really read this whole post, I'm very impressed...lol!!! I hope everyone had a great weekend too!!!! Thank you as always for reading!!! Be sure to check back this week for a nail blog!

"You can dress to kill....whatever makes you feel like a rock star"

April 2, 2012

Hello lovelies!

One thing I love ALMOST as much as fashion is country music. So you can probably imagine my excitement when two of my favorite things were brought together Sunday night at the Academy of Country Music Awards (ACMs)! I LOVE checking out the Red Carpet fashion so I thought I would share with you my selections for the best (and worst) dressed!!!

It’s inevitable: whenever Carrie Underwood is on the Red Carpet she is going to ALWAYS look GORGEOUS! So naturally to start my Best Dressed list I will begin with Carrie who wore a gown by Abed Mahfouz and shoes by Oscar de la Renta. It was simply elegant but had that slit up the side that added some hotness!!

Jennifer Nettles of Sugarland took the color blocking and bright colors trend for spring to the Red Carpet in her self-described “watermelon Jolly Rancher” Max Azria Atelier gown. I loved the color combination of pink with neon yellow. This was definitely one of my favorites of the night.

My final pick for Best Dressed was Nicole Kidman (wife of country music superstar Keith Urban). I think she is probably one of the most beautiful women in general and last night was no exception! Her black L’Wren Scott gown was also on point with the spring trend of longer hemlines in skirts and dresses. Not to mention those red strappy L’Wren Scott sandals…red + black is always a great classic color combination!

To me one of the worst dressed stars of the evening was Leann Rimes. The Stella McCartney dress she wore has actually been worn by other celebrities in different color combinations but this dress just does not scream “Red Carpet” to me. I just don’t like the mesh paneling of the dress at all and think she could’ve done SO much better!

I just don’t feel like it’s right to end this post on that picture of Leann Rimes, so I’m going  to instead include my first ever Best Dressed MAN in my blog!!! Of course the award goes to the one and only Kenny Chesney. Last night he performed a new song with Tim Mcgraw (pictured on the left) that was the inspiration for the title of this post. He wore his classic straw cowboy hat, cut off tank top, tight jeans and cowboy boots. However if I’m being honest I don’t care one single bit what he wears; he has been and always will be my favorite country music artist for obvious reasons:

So who did you all think was the best and worst dressed of the ACMs?! Leave me a comment & share your thoughts!!!

Thank you for reading dolls!

Urban Decay Naked Eye Palettes 1 & 2 Review

April 1, 2012

Happy April 1st!

I hope everyone is having a splendid weekend. I thought I would do a little beauty product review of some eyeshadow palettes and mascara I am currently obsessed with & have been using the past month!

At the end of February I went to Ulta Beauty Supply (one of my fave stores for makeup besides Sephora) with one mission in mind: to pick up one of the Urban Decay Naked or Naked 2 eye shadow palettes. I have heard so much hype over the years about these great eye shadows but I had yet to buy one. However with a $50 Ulta gift card I received from a best friend for Christmas I thought this would be the perfect time to try one of these palettes out!

So I went in to Ulta and this is what I see when I try to decide which color to get…

Two AMAZINGLY pretty palettes with beautiful colors!!! Oh no! I thought it would be an easy and obvious decision but that was not the case. To help me solve my dilemma, I did what any social media fashionista would do: I decided I would ask my Twitter followers for their help! Well Urban Decay saw my Tweet and re-tweeted it for all of THEIR almost 90,000 followers!!!! How helpful was that!?

Suddenly I started getting Tweets from people all over the country giving me advice….and the majority said….

“BUY BOTH!”

With my $50 gift card and not being able to turn down great advice I decided that it would be the best option to just get both!!! So buying both is what I did….

After using both now the past weeks, I can TOTALLY understand why people said to buy both. While the colors may look similar they are definitely different, so I thought I would share with you my favorite looks from Naked & Naked 2 and try to point out what I like about each of the palettes.

Here are the colors in the original Naked palette (with hearts marking my favorites)….

From left to right:
FAVE-Virgin, FAVE-Sin, Naked, Sidecar, Buck, FAVE-Half Baked, Smog, FAVE-Darkhorse, Toasted, Hustle, Creep, Gunmetal

PROS of Naked palette:
-Long-lasting (I put this on in the morning & still there after a long day).
-It offers an extra grey/black shade that the Naked 2 palette does not have.
-More bronze & gold colors which are beautiful!
-While both palettes could be used for evening, it seems that Naked leans more towards evening wear because of the shimmery shades (especially a shade like Sidecar with lots of glitter!)

Here are the colors in the Naked 2 palette….

From left to right:
Foxy, Half Baked, FAVE-Bootycall, Chopper, Tease, Snakebite, Suspect, Pistol, FAVE-Verve, FAVE-YDK, Busted, Blackout

Pros of Naked 2:
-I like the eyeliner “Blackout” better than the eyeliner in Naked called “Creep.” It is darker black without the shimmer which I prefer.
-The eye brush included is double-sided as opposed to the one in the Naked palette, with one side made for the crease and the other for use all-over the lid.
-It is also long-lasting like the Naked shades.
-The mirror is SO much better which comes in handy when traveling.

In conclusion, while you can’t go wrong with either palette, Naked 2 is my absolute favorite. Both are fabulous but I find myself using the Naked 2 palette more.

Have any of y’all tried the Urban Decay Naked eye shadow palettes? What do you think? Check out the Naked Palette HERE and the Naked 2 Palette HERE

Thanks so much for reading dolls!!!

Ashley
