Leopard Love for Leap Year!

February 29, 2012

Happy Leap Day Dolls!

As my very last post for February, I wanted to show y’all a couple of cooler weather OOTDs I’ve worn recently before it gets to be full-fledged warm, spring weather. These outfits revolve around one of my favorite prints (besides stripes and polka dots): LEOPARD print!!! So tonight I thought I would show you what I would like to call a little leopard love…

So when I went shopping in the outlet malls in January I found a great deal on this adorable leopard print fur coat by Juicy Couture! The key to wearing such a statement piece as leopard print fur? Toning down the rest of your outfit…so I went with a monochromatic black on black look!

Coat: Juicy Couture
Black jeans: Tommy Hilfiger
Heels: Guess
Black long sleeve shirt: H&M

On to my next favorite leopard print item I’ve worn recently…these leopard print heels by Gianni Bini:

Sigh…I love me a pair of sky-high heelz like nobody's business!! I paired mine with skinny black jeans and my cape (remember when I bought the cape on this shopping trip HERE?).

Cape: Glimmer by J.J. Basics
Jeans: Tommy Hilfiger
Heels: Gianni Bini
By the way, leopard print can totally be worn into the spring! In fact, animal print jeans are having a moment (believe it or not) and these will be fun to wear into the spring. Also look for a lightweight leopard print scarf to wear with a tank top and jeans to transition into spring…or even leopard print ballet flats! BUT not all together...limit: one leopard print item per outfit please ;)

In case you were looking for some leopard print inspired inspiration, here is a Polyvore I put together of some WILD items….

Oscars Best & Worst Dressed!

February 28, 2012

Hello lovely readers!

I hope everyone had an amazing weekend & is having a good start to your week. As you saw in my last post, this weekend I was SO excited to be invited by a lovely fashion blogger (Jessica from First Came Fashion)  to join a live, online interactive chat on Spreecast to discuss Red Carpet fashion. If you missed it and would like to watch click HERE! I had an absolute blast...I love talking fashion & I love connecting with other bloggers! I also participated in a Red Carpet fashion re-cap Monday night, so click HERE to check that out as well!

So since Sunday night was one of the biggest nights in fashion, I thought I would do a little recap of who, in my opinion, were the best and worst dressed celebrities at the 84th Annual Academy Awards.

Some trends we saw a lot of on the Red Carpet were whites, red, and gold accents. I’m not gonna lie, I was a little disappointed not to see more color on the Red Carpet this year. But nonetheless here are some of my...

Red Carpet favorites….

Cameron Diaz:

The gorgeous diamonds! The sassy hair! The nude dress! I loved Cameron’s overall look; she was absolutely beautiful in this Gucci number. What makes the dress in my opinion was the bottom…I loved the texturized look and the sparkles.

Emma Stone:

Yes, it has been reported this was a bit TOO similar to Nicole Kidman’s red dress from the 2008 Oscars, but I really loved Emma Stone’s red Giambattista Valli dress. Maybe it’s because I think Emma Stone is too cute anyway, but I thought she looked absolutely gorgeous. Red heads in red is always risky but I thought she pulled it off well. And I really liked the big dramatic bow!

Octavia Spencer:

Octavia Spencer was stunning in this number by Tadashi Shoji. This was the perfect gown for winning an Oscar….it really screamed “Oscars” to me. The beadwork was stunning and the cut of the dress fit her perfectly. She looked amazing.

Angelina Jolie:

If you read my blog, you know that I am slightly obsessed with Angelina Jolie. Things were no different for me at the Oscars. I loved her Atelier Versace gown, her hair, her makeup. What I wasn’t so crazy about….along with the rest of the world….was how she WORE her dress and posed with her right leg protruding from the slit. It was a bit calculated, cheesy, and it took away from her usually EFFORTLESS beauty. To put it simply: she was trying too hard! So did I think she looked beautiful? YES. But I didn’t like the way she WORE her dress. She’s Angelina Jolie…she didn’t need to try so hard!!!

Milla Jovovich

Of all the white gowns we saw on the Red Carpet, this Ellie Saab gown was my absolute favorite. I LOVE the neckline and the bead-covered look of the gown. Her hair and makeup (with the red lip) complement this dress perfectly. She’s a knockout for sure!

And now for worst dressed….

Sandra Bullock

I was so disappointed in Sandra’s Marchesa dress. I loved her hair AND her makeup, but I just wasn’t a fan of this dress. She always looks SO gorgeous on the Red Carpet but this was definitely a fashion fail. There’s really not anything I liked about this dress but perhaps the worst thing is that it just didn’t FIT her. It was even more disappointing that it was by Marchesa! Usually Marchesa is one of my fave designers but this didn’t work for me.

Color Blocked Nails!

February 24, 2012

Hi gorgeous readers!

TGIF! I am SO excited to write a nail post and show you what I got on my nails yesterday!!! So as I wrote in my last nail post (read HERE), OPI came out with their summer/spring Holland collection recently featuring some beautiful pastels along with a few bold colors. One thing I knew when I went to get my nails done yesterday was that I definitely wanted a color from this ah-ma-zing collection!

SO…when I was looking through the color swatches I decided to go with this super pretty coral colorcalled “Red Lights Ahead...Where?”

Red Lights Ahead...Where?

After I picked my color my nail technician asked…”Do you want to add something else?”and I was suddenly struck by inspiration!! If you follow the fashion world (or my blog for that matter) you may know of the trend “color blocking” which involves putting together 2 colors you may not normally think to pair together in “blocks”…such as a bright yellow top with hot pink pants. It was actually big last summer and looks as if it will be a big trend again this year (even into the fall as you saw in my NYFW posts)! You ALSO may have seen the trend of having one statement nail being a different color (usually the ring finger) floating around on Pinterest. I went with these 2 ideas and came up with my own color-blockednails: CORAL + TURQUOISE!!!

I am pretty obsessed anyway with coral and turquoise for the warmer months…but usually I don’t wear them together. HOWEVER, that is precisely what color blocking is all about: putting together differentcolor combinations that may seem OUTRAGEOUS but they somehow work!!! For the turquoise, I used “Fly” from the OPI Nicki Minaj collection!

Fly

Coral + Turquoise = Love

So without further adieu, I present to you my color blocked nails:

Ring finger = "Fly" and "Red Lights Ahead...Where?" on the rest!

I also made a collage of some of my favorite color combination ideas for color blocked nails (check out my New York Fashion Week posts here and here to see the outfits that inspired the lime green + grey and the royal blue + jade green combinations)….

Navy + Pink
Grey + Lime Green
Orange + Purple
Jade Green + Royal Blue
Mix and match!!!!

So will you be wearing color blocked, statement nails!? Leave me a comment & tell me what you think of color blocking on your nails!!! What colors would you pair together?

Thank you so much for reading! I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

OOTNs: Weekend Edition + How to Comment on my Blog!

February 22, 2012

Hello dolls! Hope everyone is having a fabulous week! Tonight is going to be a little bit of a random post...I wanted to show you my OOTNs from this past weekend AND how to comment on my blog since a lot of people have told me they're having trouble commenting!

If you remember back from my Christmas post HERE, Santa brought me this cute little cotton navy dress from H&M. I will definitely be wearing this dress as it gets warmer…but for now I wanted to show you how you don't have to wait til the weather warms up to start wearing some of your spring pieces! Here is how I "winterized" my spring dress NOW and how I may wear it LATER....

NOW: wear your sundress with boots and a sweater. Tights = optional.

Dress: H&M
Sweater: Tommy
Booties: Old Navy
I love the “cool” color palette of navy with gray. (remember the Old Navy booties I'm wearing that I bought last fall HERE?)

LATER: Wearing a sundress as the weather warms up is EASY, just substitute your boots for sandals OR wedges and go without your sweater.

So moral of the story? Don’t wait until spring to wear your spring clothes! Break them out NOW, but just “winter-ize” them until the temperatures start to rise!

The next night I wore my winter shorts (which Santa also brought me for Christmas!) with heels and a sheer off the shoulder top (one of my faves from F21!). While these shorts are technically "winter shorts" I will probably still wear them as the weather heats up for dressing up/going out occassions!

Top: F21
Belt: NY & Co
Shorts: H&M
Heels: Guess
Now on to the next order of business. Many people have told me they try to leave comments on my blog all the time but can’t figure out how to do it since they don’t have a blog! SO, upon further investigation I figured out how my lovely readers can leave me comments WITHOUT having a blog. Here is a quick little “tutorial” on how to leave comments even if you don’t have a blog….

1) At the bottom of the post you want to comment on, click the "___ Comments" link.

2) A window will come up that gives you the option to "Post a Comment." Click the drop-down menu on the "Comment as" menu.

3) On the drop-down menu, click "Name/URL."

4) A window will pop up where you can type in your name and a URL (optional). When you've typed your name click "Continue."

5) Then type in your comment and when you are done, click "Publish" and your comment will appear momentarily on my blog!

I cannot begin to tell you how much I appreciate your comments!!! Hopefully now my readers who do not have a blog will be able to comment. Please let me know if you still have trouble commenting!
And once again thank you SO much for taking the time to read and comment. It means so very much to me!!!!
I will leave you with a question....what are you most looking forward to wearing this spring!? Follow the above steps to leave me a comment & let's see if these instructions worked!

Be sure to check back for a nail post (gettin' my nails done tomorrow) later this week!!!! And if you haven't already, like my Facebook page by clicking HERE!
Thank you lovelies! MWAH! :)

Some of My Fave NY Fashion Week Shows!

February 17, 2012

Happy Friday daaaahlings!

The weekend has finally arrived ladies & gents, oh yeah! I hope y’all had a great week. This afternoon I wanted to highlight some of my favorite fashions from New York Fashion week since there have been many more shows since I blogged about the BCBG show (read that post HERE). If you LOVE runwayfashion then this post is for YOU! :)

To get started I wanted to show some of my favorite looks from the Betsey Johnson Fall 2012collection. I absolutely LOVE Betsey Johnson…her clothes are always so fun and girly; always including a pop of PINK (what’s not to love?!) and SPARKLES! So here are a few of my faves…

I have always loved black, white and red together. Love the contrast of an this oversized sweater with sheer tights.

I want this outfit! I love the white tights with white sweater in contrast with the black coat, boots, & hat. Note well ladies: looks like riding boots will be in again next fall!

This is probably my fave outfit from the Betsey collection. It's so over-the-top yet totally wearable at the same time. And that leopard print coat? Enough said!

I noticed a lof this chartreuse green color. Such a bold yet understated color! I feel like this shade would look great with many different skin tones & hair colors.

These hot pink tights were seen in many of the outfits; I gotta invest in some! Black + pink = another one of my favorite color combos!

Another big trend: fur-trimmed coats. And again with those hot pink tights...I die!!!

Again the chartreuse green color. LOVE this dress...a classic Betsey style!!!

Hot pink fur coat. Where would I wear it? No clue. Do I need one? OF COURSE! Throw in those silver boots while you're at it! ;)

I watched the live feed of this show and saw this skirt on the runway & fell in LOVE. This picture does not do it justice. It's probably another one of my favorite pieces from the collection! It is chartreuse green with a rhinestone overlay. Gorgeous!

Again, I LOVED the bright colors of her collection!!! And basically I love anything pink...and with rhinestones!

Another one of my favorite shows at NYFW was the Diane von Furstenberg Fall 2012 RTW collection. The big colors on the runway were RED and BLACK… also with a little color blocking! Here were my fave looks…

This dress is HOT! One of the best necklines I've ever seen on a dress! I like that it's asymmetrical without being "one shoulder." And with the red accessories? Pretty fab if you ask me!

Red dress + black leather gloves = great combination!

I love the coat belted at the waist with the skinny pants and flats. A perfect look!

This coat is SO sleek and paired with the shades it brings it to another level!

Again we see color blocking...looks like it will be a trend that carries into next fall!

One of the most wearable fashion designers at NYFW was J. Crew. I absolutely loved most of their collection but picked out just a few of my favorites. Note: bright colors, form-fitting silhouettes, signature patterned pants and layering ruled the runway here.

I am obsessed with this burgundy leather jacket, and I love the color combination of it paired with grey!

These pants are so funky but look toned down with the sweater. The blue and green look great together!

I'm obsessed with stripes I'm tellin' ya...I need help!!! lol AND this is even cuter because it's stripes on stripes but it totally works. Love it!

Again here are J. Crew's famous patterend pants. Looks adorable paired w/ the hot pink coat!

Cute dress! Love with heels.

There were SO many other great runway shows and fashions at NYFW I will have to blog about in a later post!!! So do you like any of these looks I featured today? Leave me a comment & tell me your fave NYFW runway looks!

Thank you for reading & have a fabulous weekend!
