OOTD and OOTN: Bright Pants Trend

September 29, 2011

Good evening beautiful readers!!! I wanted to post today on a couple of outfits I’ve worn this week (one of them incorporating a fall trend: bright pants!) and some ideas on how you can incorporate the bright pant trend into your own wardrobe.

In dressing this week I just pulled a few things out of my closet I’ve had for a while. To run some errands around town my OOTD consisted of a dress from Forever 21. I absolutely love this dress for two reasons: 1) I love brown and 2) it can be worn into the fall with brown leggings, a sweater, & boots.
Dress: Forever 21
Sandals: Forever 21

Close-up of my earrings. I recommend F21 for cute jewelry on the cheap. They have a great selection and it’s usually pretty inexpensive. These earrings were around $3 and I’ve gotten a lot of use out of them!!!

Now on to one of the big trends this fall: bright pants!

When I have no clue what to wear, one of my favorite websites for fashion inspiration is polyvore.com. Last night when dressing to go to a movie with one of my BFFs I was in need of a little inspiration and came across an outfit I LOVED worn by Victoria Beckham that also incorporated this fall’s trend of bright pants. I absolutely LOVE her style... she always looks so classy and sophisticated.

I thought this would be the perfect outfit for a movie and the perfect way to incorporate bright pants into my look. It was a little chilly so the scarf would be a warm addition but not so chilly that I couldn’t wear cropped pants and a sleeveless shirt. This look is definitely appropriate for “transitioning into fall” and I can’t wait to wear these pants this fall with a long sleeve shirt/blazer as well. I love the challenge of taking a celebrity look and making it my own! So after pulling a few things from my closet I’ve had FOREVER, I came up with this…

Tank top: Gap
Zebra scarf: H&M
Cropped pants: Rampage
Heels: Rampage

Bracelets: H&M

And here are some other outfits I created using Polyvore (look me up: ashleyspassionforfashion) that incorporate bright pants…

“Whoever said orange was the new pink was seriously disturbed”

September 27, 2011

Hello dears! I wanted to first say that if you’ve tried to leave a comment in the past but haven’t been able to, you should be able to now! I am still figuring out Blogger & finally realized there was a setting disabled for anyone to comment. I would love for you to leave me a comment now that it works!!! Now onto my post of the day…

“Whoever said orange was the new pink was seriously disturbed” …an Elle Woods quote I lived by until I started my college years at UT Knoxville. Slowly I started incorporating one of the most unflattering colors you can imagine (sorry Vols fans, but orange can be hard to wear) into my closet. The more items I added the more I started to kind of actually LIKE orange. But of course it will never be the new pink….

With another UT game this weekend, I thought I would do a post to highlight some of my UT fashions throughout my years at UT. This year is a GREAT year to be a Vols fan in the fashion department…orange is EVERYWHERE in stores and I think will be a huge color this fall in general.

When I started UT I would just buy a few random orange pieces here and there. The key to dressing in a color that isn’t the most flattering is finding the shade that suits you best no matter your school colors. While I know UT’s bright orange is a bit “gaudy” (in the words of Sandra Bullock’s character in The Blind Side), it doesn’t mean you HAVE to exactly stick to that shade. Maybe some diehard fans would disagree, but from the point of view of a fashion-obsessed girl, I always tried to go with shades of orange that flattered my skin tone, even if sometimes they were a bit more of a “burnt” orange than a true UT orange. Wear what looks best on you!!!!

I don’t think I ever wore the exact same outfit twice to a game just because I would mix and match the same pieces. The key to looking cute for football games is to change it up…accessories are EVERYTHING…and be creative!

So in no particular order, some of my favorite UT outfits:
I’ll start with dresses…

Freshman year: UT vs GA game (pictured in my DORM—gag!)
The good thing about being a UT fan is that one of their colors is WHITE so wearing white with accents of orange is totally acceptable.
Dress: Ann Taylor Loft
Hair flowers (you will see these in MANY pictures…I kind of love them): Claire’s
Sophomore year before the UT vs UAB game (this time in my apartment, much better than the dorms!).
Dress: Macy's (back when bubble hems were all the rage)
Shoes: Italian Shoemakers
Bracelet: Target

This year before the UT vs. Montana game
Dress: B. Darlin from Dillard’s THIS YEAR! It is actually a one-shoulder dress  but I tucked the strap inside my dress because it makes it more casual.
Flip flops: Yellow Box (most amazing & comfortable sandals I own!)
Earrings & Necklace: Charming Charlie (this is where I recommend looking for any game day jewelry…no matter your school’s colors this store will have it! The whole store is grouped by color and each section has tons of jewelry and accessories)

Now when the weather starts getting chilly, I still like wearing dresses to the games (and even though brown isn’t an official UT color, I loved wearing brown and accessorizing with orange because I think they go so well together):

Junior Year: UT vs GA game.
Long-sleeved sweater dress: Gap
Leather jacket: Gap
Tights: Hue (fave brand of tights!)
Boots: Alfani (yes I wore heels to the game…the things girls do in the name of fashion!)
Scarf: H&M

Senior year: UT vs. Alabama
Dress: Copper Key
Shirt: Gap
Clogs: UGG
Flower ring: Stella & Dot

Junior year: UT vs. South Carolina: BLACKOUT Halloween game (one of my favorite games even though it rained…UT players wore black uniforms and fans dressed in black to “blackout” the stadium).
I kept this look simple…all black with orange accessories; how Halloween yet UT appropriate all at the same time!
Dress: Michael Kors
Boots: UGG
Hair flower: Claire’s

Other cold weather outfits:

Sophomore Year: UT vs. Alabama
Sweatshirt: UT bookstore (bought this sweatshirt last minute to wear to a basketball game but since it was FREEZING this game thought it would be a cute but warm option!)
Jeans: Paper Denim & Cloth
Belt: Dillard's
Tobogan: Dillard's (with a flower from Claire's pinned on the front)
Boots: UGG (Catalina)

Sophomore year: UT vs. N. Illinois (Please excuse my awkward head tilt , I was talking on the phone haha)
Orange knit top: Cable & Gauge (they make some of the cutest sweaters)
Jeans: Fossil
Cowgirl boots: Durango
Belt: Dillard's

Senior Year: UT vs. Ole Miss
Orange turtleneck: Jones New York
White sweater with ruffles: Romeo & Juliet Couture (who just came out with a Gossip Girl clothing line today)
Sofia Pearl Bib Necklace: Stella & Dot
Sunglasses: Ralph Lauren

Junior Year: UT vs. Auburn
Shirt: Jones New York
Necklace: Stella & Dot

And finally, the same top, 2 different ways:

#1)

Top: Esley
Shorts: Tommy Hilfiger

#2)

Top: Esley
Blue jean shorts: Forever 21
Cowgirl boots: Durango

And here are some really cute orange items in stores right now….

LOVE this orange purse I saw on Stein Mart's website today! Only $39.99 but looks like great quality. Love the chain strap, buckle and zipper.  Find it here:

Vince Camuto Bracelet from Macy's. Would look great with a stack of other gold bangles.
Find it here: Macy's Orange Cuff Bracelet
Love this burnt orange cardigan from Kohl's! This could be worn over a sundress to a chilly game with boots, or possibly belted with jeans.
Find it here: Elle Orange Ruffle Rosette Cardigan

Weekend in Atlanta: OOTN & My Loot from H&M

September 25, 2011

Good evening loves! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend! Tonight I want to recap my weekend by first sharing my OOTN for Friday night to go out in Atlanta with my roomie Stacey & her hubby and friends, then I want to show y’all part 1 of what I bought this weekend at H&M.

Friday night was a little chilly so jeans were definitely a must. I also wore a top from Target I bought a few months ago (on another shopping trip with my roomie) on the clearance rack for $3.74!! It was a top I wasn’t REALLY sure what I would wear it with, but at $3.74 I thought I’d take my chances and I would possibly come up with something in the future when inspiration struck. That inspiration came in the form of a belt I bought last week at New York & Company (find it here New York & Company Buckle Belt) and decided it would be perfect to wear with this top. When a top is shapeless, a belt is always a great option!

Here is my outfit of the night:
Top: Target (with a tube top underneath since the top is sheer. Tube top is an oldie from Wet Seal...tube tops are a great staple to have in your closet for layering without showing straps!)
Belt: New York & Company
Jeans: Nine West
Heels: Guess
Rhinestone hoop earrings: Charming Charlie's

Remember my post the other day about transitioning your summer wardrobe into the fall? Well Stacey had a great idea for transitioning capris into the fall! Pair them with boots and a pair of socks that match the boots, and no one will know you’re wearing capris and not regular pants!!! So cute!!!!

Here is Stacey’s outfit of the night:
My beautiful college roomie in her OOTN!

Before we went out Friday, Stacey & I spent several hours looking around in the two story H&M in Atlantic Station. Even though we spent hours, the store is just so huge that I feel like I still probably missed some things! H&M prices are SO reasonable and you really get a lot for your money! Not to mention their stuff is SO cute and really good quality. Looking around it was easy to see that ORANGE is going to be HUGE this fall!!! There was tons of orange stuff, so the inner Vols fan in me was pretty happy. I found a lot of good pieces that I will be able to wear with things already in my closet. So here are my H&M Fall 2011 purchases...

Brown shell with lace detail, I just love lace! Will be great by itself or paired under a sweater!
One of my favorite purchases: brown wool skirt! Will probably wear with the brown shell above, sweaters, boots, tights, etc!
Orange sweater...only $14.95! Will be perfect for a fall UT game.

Brown and cream turtle necks with gold stripes...will be great for layering or by themselves!
Black skinny jeans that kind of fit like jeggings. Will get so much use out of these and they were only $13!
Black & white striped long sleeved t-shirt. Will be perfect to layer under sweaters or by itself!
Black skirt that will be great to wear with so many things this fall

And for my fave purchase: navy blazer with gold buttons!!! Will be good with jeans and over dresses! Just read in InStyle this week that navy blazers are the new black!

H&M is also one of my favorite places to shop for jewelry! I scored a couple of bracelets & necklace.

One of the many orange items in the store! I just LOVE lock & key necklaces

Our matching bracelets! LOVE these...they were $4 each & I know I'll wear them all the time!

If you made it this far in my super long post, congratulations and thanks so much for reading! Once I start talking about fashion I just can't stop!! Check back tomorrow for a post on some items I picked up from Macy's also while I was in Atlanta!! If you have trouble making a comment on here let me know and don't forget to follow my blog!

Ashley
